MY EATING DIARY vol.5
Ristorante il Teatro @ Wynn Macau
Home of the high rollers, good food and the asian cousin of Las Vegas, is Macao. As one of the most exciting up and coming places in South East Asia, it is Hong Kong's neighbor and glamorous relative. While most people often think of Robuchon as Macao's top restaurant, located conveniently inside Hotel Lisboa, il Teatro just may be what the doctor orderd to dethrone Robouchon as Macao's leading restaurant. Don't let the tacky name fool you, the food is absolutely exquisite and should be tried by any food lover. Expect to pay around $HK1,000 per person for a 3 course meal + wine and remember when making a reservation to get a seat closer to the windows to enjoy the hourly light/water show.

The first impression of any restaurant is probably the most important and IT does not dissapoint. This simple yet plentiful starch plate is edible fromt he bottom up. The bread's are varied enough that each one won't taste the same as the last and is guaranteed to start the meal in a good atmosphere, all thats missing now is some good old home made butter.
Triple over kill scallop starter. Scallops are grilled perfectly, seared on the outside and still raw in the middle. Absolutle heaven. 3 very distinct tastes with the leftmost paired with a potato sauce which gave the scallop a very chunky texture. The lime sauce was perfect for Connie but a little too sour for me and the final on the right was balsamic made and just right. Definetly eat the lime last as it will make the others taste a bit bland.
Foie + Beef. Perfectly cooked in everyway and the sweet fruit sauce was perfect. Portion was a bit too small and I have yet to find any restaurant that does this with any innovation.
Scallop dish 2. Cheesy rissotto with scallops and a type of sweet, teryiaki soya sauce as the dressing. Absolutely amazing. The best dish we had that night. The only problem is thing packs a huge punch and will fill you up in 3 bites. Share it if your a lady, or take it all on if your a man's man.
Sea urchin, clams and white wine linguine. Fuision at it's best. The sweet sea urchin is very fresh and the dry white wine incorporates the urchin and the clam meat to perfection. The pasta is just right, very soft but chewy enough that you have to work for your food. Overall, very good, only critique is too much oil at the end of the pasta and not enough sea urchin ;)
I'm not a huge dessert fan and the ice cream and chocolate sticks does very little to change my perception of this. However, the pannacotta was probably the best sweet thing I have ever had in my life. Not to sweet and just soft enough that it just melts in your mouth, the honey truffle is the highlight of this dish and makes everything just that much better. I highly reccomend trying the pannacotta if you get a chance to go to IT.
The service was excellent, the light n aqua show was entertaining and the food was spot on. Definitly reccommend trying out IT conveniently located at Wynn. Make sure to also hit up the Texas hold em tables downstairs. One of the first and only in Macau the moment. (Leave the wife at the hotel first :P)
Thanks for reading, til our next adventures in the sea of food, buh bye!
